About

Waruna Perera

Sri Lankan-born American painter Waruna Perera examines the erosion of middle-class stability through symbolic figuration, political satire, and civic spectacle. Working in oil and acrylic at a consistent scale of 48 by 60 inches, his paintings recast American iconography — flags, crowns, processions — through distorted, cartoon-adjacent figures. He is based in Staten Island, New York.
